Introduction

  1. Greek fonts are in SPIonic font or BSTGreek font.
  2. Download these two fonts and copy them to your computer.
  3. Put them in c:\windows\fonts [for Win 95, 98, XP] or c:\winnt\fonts [for WinNT or Win2000]. They are font files only, so don't worry about virus.

How Greek affect our daily life?

  1. The terms and culture as expressed in daily life: Greek architecture
  2. Special uses: Science, astronomy, Mathematics.
  3. English words: influenced from Latin, Greek (15%), French, and Saxon (or Welsh)
  4. The Indo-European languages: Greek can help you learning Latin (Italian), German, French and other related languages. E.g. use of ending declension
  5. Biblical Study: The original text of New Testament is in Greek. Thus the only way to understand it fully is in Greek. Plus, the Old Testament in Greek is called LXX. It has influenced the authors of New Testament deeply.
  6. All the classical writers write in Greek or Latin. It is why these two languages are originally chosen as the must-learnt languages in England before.
  7. For Christians, many important doctrines in systematic theology (e.g. Christology and other doctrines) are written mainly in Greek (some in Latin). They are formulated in Greek, in terms of Greek thought, in the creeds of the churches in the first three Century. E.g. Nicean Creed is in Greek.
  8. Daily uses of Greek: Devotion, bible study (personal or small group), sermon preparation, doctrinal debate, biblical guidance (in search of new insights), and exegesis (deep analysis and prevent wrong concepts from translation or traditions)

Religious use of Greek among Christians:

  2. Exegesis (clearer understanding): Romans 6, Matthew 28
  3. Exegesis tools: Examples in Uses of Tools
  4. Devotion,
  5. Exegesis (deeper analysis)
  6. Exegesis (and prevent wrong concepts from translation or traditions)
  7. Bible study (personal or small group),
  8. Sermon preparation,
  9. Doctrinal debate, (homo, homoi; ousia) Greek > Latin
  10. Biblical guidance (in search of new insights: translation may misguide you.),
